What's actually moving in AI and cybersecurity.

Short, regular notes on what's showing up in client conversations, vendor pitches, and the broader AI and cybersecurity market — written for people making go-to-market and security decisions, not for the AI hype cycle.

The Power to Build Has Been Democratized

If you have stumbled onto this page…welcome! Like you, I consume a lot of content around cybersecurity and AI. A lot of it is new and can be complex, and that's OK. But is it helping you to progress and advance your company objectives? It should.

So…I am going to share what I am seeing against the backdrop of a long career in cyber and try to add context for you in the go-to-market arena. This past year I did a deep dive with a company to become a “native AI” worker. I needed a lot of coaching from engineers and Claude, and a few weeks ago, I launched my own application.

I talk about this because it showed me that all of this new tech is very accessible even if you are over 50 and remember the .com boom. Back then it was learning about routing protocols and the OSI stack, PKI and proxies. Now, it's MCP gateways, LLMs, and vibe coding. The power to build has been democratized!

If you can build a specific app that solves your daily needs, combines all of the data across separate SaaS apps, and has proper governance and an identity layer, do you really need all of those expensive SaaS offerings? Maybe…maybe not.

Companies are adopting AI at different rates. Some are testing all of the harnesses and enabling the team with access and guidelines, and others are holding back and trying to control access to prevent a data breach. There is a balance to be struck; engagement is essential in today's business environment. Companies that lag will disappear like Compaq Computer (who?).

Some of the topics that interest me are:

  • AI Adoption: How should your company test and move into the agentic era?
  • Security: What security challenges does this present to your organization, and how can you mitigate them?
  • Leadership: Who is leading the AI charge for your company — which teams, and what are your goals?
  • Execution: Can you run at full speed using AI without stumbling, prevent a data breach, and begin to realize ROI from that investment?

Momentum you can feel — the kind of win a bold AI experiment can unlock.

Now is an amazing time to be alive and to benefit from the greatest technology phase in our lifetime. Your judgment is what decides the output from an AI project. If you have a story to tell or would like to talk about how to accelerate your company's adoption of essential technology…drop me a note. My network and I can work together to help you win!
